Central Delhi saw major disruption on Monday as a protest march towards Parliament led to clashes between demonstrators and security forces. The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) held a ‘Chalo Sansad’ march on the first day of the Monsoon Session, demanding education reforms and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged NEET irregularities. What Happened Protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar and tried to break police barricades to march towards Parliament. Clashes broke out at multiple spots including Jantar Mantar, Rail Bhawan, Shastri Bhawan, Constitution Club, Janpath, Connaught Place and near RBI. Security forces used tear gas shells, lathicharge, water cannons and anti-riot Vajra vehicles to disperse the crowd. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke was reportedly detained from Jantar Mantar. Several protesters and police personnel received minor injuries. Security And Traffic Impact Delhi Police deployed 5,000+ personnel and 25+ CAPF battalions across New Delhi. The area was split into 15 security sectors. Rail Bhawan and Parliament complex were sealed as a no-movement zone. Traffic was suspended around Central Vista. Metro stations in the area had restricted entry and some gates were shut temporarily. Commuters were stranded. Connaught Place traffic was halted after protesters moved into the commercial hub. Protesters alleged mobile/internet jammers were used near the site. No official confirmation yet. Current Status CJP leaders claimed the Centre agreed to hold talks and they have sought a meeting. There has been no official confirmation from the government so far.
