The Ministry of Electronics and IT said the new Aadhaar App has crossed 4 crore downloads. It also shared that the “Biometric Lock/Unlock” feature has been used over 1.91 crore times, showing more people are now securing their Aadhaar data.

This feature lets you control when your fingerprints, iris and face linked to Aadhaar can be used for authentication.

What Is Aadhaar Biometric Lock?

Biometric Lock is a safety feature that lets you lock the fingerprint, iris and face data connected to your Aadhaar number.

Once locked:

  • No one can use your biometrics for Aadhaar verification
  • Even if someone has your Aadhaar number, the authentication will fail with error code 330
  • You can unlock it anytime when you need to use it

Note: You need a mobile number linked to Aadhaar to use this feature.
