New Delhi – The Narendra Modi government has taken a major decision for farmers. In a cabinet meeting, the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme has been extended for the next five years till 2030-31. The cabinet has approved an outlay of Rs 3.15 lakh crore for the extension. The announcement was made by Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The cabinet also approved the ‘PM Surya Sarovar Yojana’ (PM-SSY) during the same meeting. 24th Instalment Likely In October The extension comes as farmers are awaiting the 24th instalment of PM-Kisan. According to reports, the next payment is expected to be released in October, possibly during Navratri. Key Numbers So Far Under PM-Kisan, over Rs 4.47 lakh crore has been transferred directly to farmers’ bank accounts across 23 installments. The 23rd installment alone benefited more than 9.49 crore farmers. More than Rs 18,984 crore was released in that tranche. During the Covid-19 pandemic, over Rs 1.71 lakh crore was disbursed as direct support. Women farmers have received over Rs 1.06 lakh crore so far. Roughly 1 in 4 beneficiaries under PM-Kisan is a woman. About PM-Kisan Launched in 2019, the scheme provides Rs 6,000 per year in financial assistance to eligible farmer families. The amount is paid in three equal installments of Rs 2,000 directly to Aadhaar-linked bank accounts through DBT. E-KYC is mandatory to receive benefits. It can be completed via OTP-based authentication, biometric authentication, or face authentication. The PM-Kisan web portal serves as the central digital platform for registration, verification and data management. PM Surya Sarovar Yojana Also Approved The cabinet has also cleared PM-SSY to boost Floating Solar Photovoltaic (FSPV) capacity in the country. The goal is to achieve 5,000 MW of FSPV capacities in five years. This is over 7 times the current installed capacity of around 700 MW.
