Aizawl (Mizoram) – Church bodies in Mizoram have announced a protest march in Aizawl on August 11 against the proposed Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) Amendment Bill, 2026. The call was made by the Council of Churches in Mizoram (CCM), an umbrella body of nine major churches including the Presbyterian Church of India (PCI) and Baptist Church of Mizoram (BCM). Why They Are Protesting CCM leaders said the bill could severely impact church organisations and civil society groups that receive foreign funding. CCM President Rev Dr R. Lalbiakliana alleged the state government has taken an “indifferent approach” to the issue, possibly because it won’t be directly affected. He added that while the amendment may look harmless, when seen along with challenges faced by minorities in the country, it raises “serious concerns” of administrative misuse. Key Concerns Raised Under the current FCRA, licenses of groups found using foreign funds for religious conversion can be cancelled and assets seized. The CCM said the new bill goes further — it proposes that if an FCRA license is cancelled, authorities could also confiscate properties, land and other assets bought with foreign contributions. The church body said it will continue opposing the bill until it is withdrawn. Rally Details The protest will start at 10:30 am on August 11 from two points — Zarkawt and Sikulpuikawn. Participants will converge at Vanapa Hall for a public meeting. CCM has invited all Christian denominations, NGOs and citizens opposing the bill to join. The demonstration comes ahead of the bill’s expected introduction in the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament.
