Karachi – A 28-year-old Hindu doctor was shot dead on Monday during an attempted robbery in Karachi’s upscale Clifton area, police said. The victim, Dr. Akash Chand, was killed in cross-firing outside a private bank between robbers and a bank security guard, according to SSP Mehroz Ali. Police said Chand had gone to the bank with his father and cousin after withdrawing *Rs 5 million* from another bank. They were carrying two packets of Rs 2.5 million each to deposit. “As soon as their car stopped outside the bank, another car pulled up behind them and tried to rob them. The security guard opened fire, the robbers retaliated, and Chand was hit,” Ali said. The robbers fled with one packet containing Rs 2.5 million. Authorities are probing whether it was an “inside job” and who fired the shot that killed Chand. The guard initially suspected the doctor’s car was linked to the robbers, the SSP added. Chand had been working at Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre for the last two years. His uncle, Khem Chand, said the family has refused to conduct the last rites until the culprits are arrested. “We have kept his body in the mortuary. We will hold a protest sit-in with the body until those responsible are caught,” he said. Clifton is one of Karachi’s most affluent neighborhoods and home to many educated Hindu families, who chose the area for its relatively high security. Police have launched an investigation into the robbery and killing. Post navigation Trump Warns of Strikes on Iran’s Power Plants and Bridges as Strait of Hormuz Deadline Looms
