India’s Petrol and Diesel Prices Stay Stable Amid Global Crude Swings

State-owned oil marketing companies (OMCs) kept retail fuel prices unchanged on Sunday, August 30, bringing relief to motorists across the country. Rates for petrol and diesel remain steady, with New Delhi recording petrol at ₹102.12 per liter and diesel at ₹95.20 per liter.

Global Crude Oil Trends

International crude prices recently eased after two consecutive weeks of gains, providing breathing room to oil refiners. According to Reuters data, Brent crude futures fell 0.3% on Friday to settle at $89.45 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude slipped 0.3% to $83.31 per barrel. Overall, Brent crude dropped 5.3% over the past week, and WTI lost 4.3%.

Will Domestic Fuel Prices Rise?

The government has given no immediate indication of a retail fuel price hike. The last significant price revision occurred in May, when oil marketing companies increased rates by up to ₹7.50 per liter across four consecutive adjustments between May 15 and May 25, triggered by crude oil crossing the $110-per-barrel mark.
