Bhopal. A massive assembly siege was organized today at Roshanpura Square under the leadership of the OBC Mahasabha. The demand: full 27% OBC reservation in Madhya Pradesh and immediate removal of the 13% hold. Thousands of people from across MP joined the protest — including OBC youth, women, students, farmers, employees, traders and representatives of social organizations. What Happened The program was carried out in a completely peaceful, democratic and constitutional manner. Protesters were holding the tricolor and copies of the Constitution, demanding their constitutional rights — implementation of 27% OBC reservation and ending the 13% hold. As the protesters peacefully marched towards the Assembly, police used water cannons and resorted to lathicharge to stop them. Several protesters were injured in the action, leading to widespread anger across the OBC community. “Demanding Constitutional Rights Is Not A Crime” The OBC Mahasabha said that demanding constitutional rights is every citizen’s democratic right. Use of force against a peaceful protest goes against democratic values and the spirit of the Constitution. “If the government chooses suppression over dialogue, the OBC struggle will only grow stronger,” the Mahasabha stated. They added that the issue of 27% OBC reservation has been pending in courts for years. Lakhs of youth’s futures are affected, but no concrete steps have been taken toward a solution. Shri Lokendra Gurjar, National Core Committee Member, OBC Mahasabha said: “Today’s assembly siege is a historic chapter in the fight for OBC self-respect, constitutional rights and social justice.
