Varanasi To foster a spiritual atmosphere during the holy month of Shravan, the Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC) has announced plans to play Shiv Stotra—Sanskrit devotional hymns honoring Lord Shiva—across 55 major intersections in the city. The decision was finalized during a recent executive committee meeting chaired by Mayor Ashok Kumar Tiwari at the Smart City Auditorium. Key Highlights of the Municipal Plan Daily Morning Broadcasts: The hymns will be played through public address systems daily between 5:30 AM and 6:30 AM throughout Shravan. Plastic-Free Drive: A strict anti-plastic campaign will be enforced around all Shiva temples and places of worship to promote cleanliness and environmental sustainability. Facilities for Kanwar Pilgrims: The civic administration will maintain designated rest shelters for visiting kanwariyas and ensure public toilets remain operational 24/7 and free of charge. Monsoon & Flood Readiness: In light of ongoing heavy rainfall, officials have been instructed to stay on high alert to handle potential flood-related challenges promptly. Context & Significance As the spiritual hub housing the famous Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Varanasi welcomes millions of devotees and kanwariyas who travel to offer sacred Ganga water during Shravan.
