Raipur (Chhattisgarh) Authorities in Raipur have arrested Arun Pannalal, an official of the Chhattisgarh Christian Forum, following allegations that he published derogatory remarks about Lord Shiva on social media. The arrest occurred late Friday night after Amit Chimnani, a spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), filed an official complaint at the Civil Lines police station. The complaint was accompanied by screenshots and digital URLs detailing the controversial comments posted in response to a Facebook update by an individual named Hansraj Goyal. Formal Charges and Legal Action According to law enforcement, the complaint states that the social media post insulted Hindu religious sentiments and Sanatan Dharma traditions. The filing further asserts that the remarks were intentionally designed to incite communal discord, divide communities, and endanger public tranquility. Police have registered a case against both Pannalal and Goyal under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including: Section 196: Fostering enmity between distinct social or religious groups. Section 299: Deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious beliefs. Section 352(2): Intentional insult aimed at provoking a breach of public peace. While Pannalal is currently in custody, police officials confirmed that an active search is underway to locate Goyal. Local Protests and Increased Security Following the incident, members of the Bajrang Dal gathered outside Pannalal’s residence in Raipur on Friday night to stage a demonstration. Police forces were deployed to the location to manage the situation and maintain order. Law enforcement officials stated that the investigation remains ongoing.
