Veteran actor Shabana Azmi has opened up about the unexpected commercial failure of Batwara 1947, expressing dismay over the polarized reception and audience reluctance toward non-traditional casting choices.

Released on August 14 ahead of Independence Day, Batwara 1947 faced stiff box office competition from Awarapan 2. While the latter emerged as a commercial hit, Batwara 1947 struggled at ticket counters, concluding its run under the ₹50-crore mark.

In a recent interview with Zoom, Azmi expressed surprise over the box office outcome, noting a sharp contrast between personal feedback and ticket sales.
