Delhi: Sonam Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali J Angmo, has issued a clear instruction to Safdarjung Hospital where Wangchuk is admitted. She said that no oral or intravenous medication should be given to him without the approval of the family and doctors.

In a post on X, she said she is present at the hospital herself and is closely monitoring his health.

Why he was hospitalized

Wangchuk’s health deteriorated during his 21-day hunger strike, after which he was admitted to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital on Saturday.

Delhi Police said the move was taken on the advice of doctors and following directions from the Delhi High Court. Wangchuk had been on a fast at Jantar Mantar since June 28 in support of protests over alleged irregularities in the NEET exam and student deaths linked to it.

Delhi Deputy Commissioner Sachin Sharma told that Wangchuk was admitted under High Court orders and is receiving necessary treatment. Hospital sources said he has grown weak due to the prolonged fast and dehydration.

At present his condition is said to be stable, and doctors are keeping him under observation. During the police action, some protesters tried to intervene, briefly leading to tension, but police managed to shift him to the hospital calmly.

Latest health update

Wangchuk’s medical team has shared a fresh update. According to doctors, all vital health parameters are currently normal. However, tests show his blood pressure and blood sugar are both lower than normal. His ECG report is normal.
