Tonk: Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Saturday alleged that the Central government is shying away from dialogue and is suppressing protests due to mounting public frustration, especially on education-related issues. Speaking to media in Tonk, Pilot said it was disappointing that the Centre was not holding talks with activist Sonam Wangchuk or addressing his demands. Wangchuk had been fasting at Jantar Mantar in Delhi since June 28. On Wangchuk’s removal “The government is not ready to speak with Sonam Wangchuk ji or meet his demands. With pressure growing nationwide on the issues he raised, the Centre looks rattled,” Pilot said. He claimed that instead of engaging in discussion, the administration detained a person who was carrying out a peaceful hunger strike. “Not a single representative went to talk to Wangchuk or understand his concerns. Rather than finding a solution, they removed him. This is very unfortunate,” he added. On youth unrest and exam paper leaks Pilot said the government is worried by rising public sentiment, particularly among students angry over paper leaks and lack of accountability. “Young people are demanding action against those responsible for leaks. They want transparency and equal opportunities. The government must clarify its stand, including on calls for the Education Minister to resign,” he said. He noted that Congress is running campaigns across the country to raise student issues. On Rajasthan Criticizing the Rajasthan government, Pilot accused it of putting off local body and panchayat elections to avoid an adverse result. “The government is making excuses to delay polls. It knows the public verdict will be against it. This shows a failure of governance and loss of trust,” he alleged. He also said that education, healthcare and infrastructure work in the state have suffered. On Tonk development During a review of projects in Tonk, Pilot said pending works like a nursing college, new medical college and hospital upgrades should be finished in the next few months. “I have told officials to expedite these as money has already been spent. People must get the benefits soon,” he said. He highlighted drinking water and power supply as key issues in the district and said steps are being taken to improve water availability, including through tankers. He also said road work will begin soon and asked authorities to open a newly built major bridge for the public at the earliest.
