LPG cylinder prices have fallen for the second month in a row. On July 1, the price of a 19kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi was cut by Rs 183. On August 1, it was reduced by another Rs 202. In just two months, the commercial cylinder has become Rs 385 cheaper. According to ANI, as of August 1, a commercial cylinder costs Rs 2,343 in Delhi, Rs 2,487.50 in Kolkata, Rs 2,489.50 in Mumbai, and Rs 2,704 in Chennai. Home-use domestic cylinder prices remain unchanged at current levels. Chennai: Rs 957.50 Mumbai: Rs 941.50 Since the war began, domestic cylinder rates have gone up by Rs 89 in total. There were two hikes during this period — Rs 29 in June and Rs 60 in March. Big Spike in May On May 1, oil marketing companies raised commercial LPG cylinder prices by nearly Rs 1,000. For the first time, the 19kg cylinder crossed Rs 3,000. On April 1, the commercial cylinder was Rs 2,078.50 in Delhi. By May 1, it had jumped to Rs 3,071.50. On January 1, the Indane LPG cylinder was priced at Rs 1,691.50. Challenge for Countries Like India India depends heavily on LPG imports. Before the war, a large portion of LPG was imported from Qatar. The conflict created supply challenges, after which domestic production was ramped up and stricter rules were put in place to curb black marketing. The situation is now gradually stabilizing.
