New Delhi — Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Jitendra Singh on Tuesday alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi first agreed to a discussion on NEET in Parliament, but later also demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Singh said the conduct of the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha was not in line with democratic norms. What Jitendra Singh Said After meeting Rahul Gandhi at the protest site, Singh posted on X that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other senior leaders were staging a sit-in near Akbar Road with supporters. The government then sent him and Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan for talks. He said they requested Rahul Gandhi to end the protest as the location was not designated for demonstrations and was causing inconvenience to the public. According to Singh, Rahul Gandhi said he would call off the protest if the government agreed to hold a discussion in Parliament on NEET and all related issues. Singh claimed that after taking approval from the top leadership, he assured Rahul Gandhi that the government was ready to discuss NEET and all connected matters in Parliament. Allegation Of Changing Demands However, Singh alleged that after receiving the assurance, Rahul Gandhi also put forward a demand for the Education Minister’s resignation. When reminded that he had earlier only asked for a parliamentary discussion, Singh claimed Rahul Gandhi replied that his demands had now changed. Calling it “unfortunate”, Singh said for a senior leader and the Leader of Opposition to go back on his word is not in keeping with democratic traditions. Govt’s Stand Singh reiterated that the government is ready to discuss NEET and all related issues in Parliament. He also alleged that Congress has not yet submitted any formal notice under the rules to take up the matter for discussion. He further said Rahul Gandhi’s behavior does not reflect democratic principles.
