Samajwadi Party National President and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav announced that the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) will be reinstated once his party returns to power in the state. Reiterating his earlier commitment, Yadav expressed confidence in forming the next government and affirmed that restoring the OPS remains a core policy priority. Highlighting his party’s track record with the teaching community, Yadav stated that welfare measures for educators have always been central to their agenda and will feature prominently in the upcoming election manifesto. He credited party leader Lal Bihari Yadav for consistently raising teachers’ grievances and public issues both among the electorate and inside the Legislative Council. The SP chief addressed the economic feasibility of the proposal, asserting that his party has already formulated a viable financial framework to support the rollout of OPS. He noted that full details outlining how the scheme will be funded will be formally presented in the party’s manifesto. Additionally, Yadav promised that an SP administration would arrange proper honorariums for teachers and non-aided (vitta viheen) school staff.
