NEW DELHI — The Bharatiya Janata Party has called on citizens nationwide to light an earthen lamp (diya) at their residences on September 17 to celebrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. The appeal, framed under the party’s “Aashirwad ka Diya” initiative, invites the public to offer prayers for the Prime Minister’s well-being, longevity, and future endeavors.

In a video address, BJP leadership requested individuals to join the initiative by lighting an “Aashirwad ka Diya” between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM on September 17. The party highlighted India’s socio-economic transformation since 2014, reaffirming the nation’s collective push toward becoming a developed country by the centenary year of independence in 2047.

Marking Modi’s 76th birthday alongside a quarter-century of continuous public leadership—spanning his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister and as Prime Minister—the party has organized a month-long welfare and service program named the “Seva Sankalp Abhiyan.”

Core Components of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan

  • Civic Engagement: Organizing grassroots community events, cleanliness drives, and blood donation camps across districts.
  • Welfare Expansion: Extending basic healthcare coverage, social security enrollments, and aid distribution to underserved communities.
  • Youth & Women Initiatives: Hosting career workshops, educational aid distribution, and sports meets focused on empowering younger generations and female entrepreneurs.

The party noted that Modi’s administration has operated under the core principle of national development through direct civic service. Key administrative milestones cited included crisis management during the pandemic, robust counter-terrorism and internal security measures, and the rollout of structural policies aimed at elevating marginalized segments of society.
