Former Andhra Pradesh Deputy CM Alla Nani Passes Away at 56 Following Heart Attack

Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas, widely known as Alla Nani, former Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister of Andhra Pradesh, died on Monday afternoon after suffering a cardiac arrest in Visakhapatnam. He was 56.

His mortal remains are being transported by road to his hometown of Eluru for final rites. He is survived by his wife, Alla Rekha, and two sons, Alla Kalikrishna Manichandra and Alla Ashish.

Political leaders across party lines—including Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, Education Minister Nara Lokesh, and YSRCP chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy—expressed profound grief and shock over his sudden demise, offering condolences to the bereaved family.

Political Career and Key Milestones

• Early Electoral Contests: Born on December 30, 1969, in Eluru, Nani attended KP High School and Sir C.R. Reddy College before pursuing higher education at Andhra University. He entered electoral politics with the Indian National Congress, facing defeats in Eluru during the 1994 and 1999 Assembly polls.
• Rise as a Lawmaker: He secured his first legislative victory in 2004 from Eluru, defeating TDP rival Ambika Krishna by over 33,000 votes, and retained the seat in 2009.
• Cabinet Roles in YSRCP: Nani exited the Congress in 2013 to join the YSR Congress Party, later becoming an MLC in 2017. Following his victory in the 2019 Assembly elections, he was inducted into Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s cabinet as Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Health, Family Welfare, and Medical Education.
• Recent Political Shifts: After the YSRCP’s defeat in the 2024 general elections, he stepped down as the party’s district president and resigned his primary membership in August 2024. He subsequently switched allegiance to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in February 2025.
