Milk prices in Maharashtra are set to see a sharp increase as the Bombay Milk Producers Association (BMPA) announced a wholesale hike of ₹9 per litre. The updated price will jump from ₹93 per litre to ₹102 per litre, directly impacting household budgets across the region. The revised rates will take effect on September 1, 2026, and remain valid until February 28, 2027. Key Highlights of the Price Revision New Wholesale Price: ₹102 per litre (up from ₹93 per litre). Effective Duration: September 1, 2026, to February 28, 2027. Reason for Hike: Over 25% surge in cattle procurement, dry fodder, feed (chuni-chana), and grain costs. Decision Authority: Mumbai Milk Producers Association, finalized following an executive meeting in Jogeshwari. Rising Production Costs Drive Decision Chandra Kumar Singh, President of the Mumbai Milk Producers Association, stated that dairy farmers and producers have faced severe operational losses due to skyrocketing input costs. The cost of dairy cattle, fodder, oil cakes, and feed supplements has escalated by roughly 25%, making it unsustainable to supply milk at older price points without adjusting wholesale rates. With wholesale rates climbing to triple digits, retail prices are expected to rise accordingly, adding to ongoing cost-of-living pressures for consumers.
