NEW DELHI

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has directed law enforcement to take swift action against individuals making derogatory online posts about freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

Speaking to the press, Adhikari demanded that those responsible immediately remove the offensive content and issue a public apology. He emphasized that the law would apply uniformly across the board, stating that no immunity would be extended to government officials, Members of Parliament, or Members of the Legislative Assembly.

“I have instructed the police to arrest anyone posting unsavoury comments about Netaji. The law will treat everyone equally—whether they are MLAs, MPs, or government officials,” Adhikari stated.

The Chief Minister’s strong stance follows recent controversial remarks by BJP MP Nagendranath Roy (also known as Ananta Maharaj), who publicly questioned Bose’s leadership, criticized the Azad Hind Fauj’s contribution to Indian independence, and labeled Netaji a “war criminal.”

New Community Service Initiative Announced

In addition to the police directive, Adhikari announced a new state-supported initiative requiring all state MLAs to establish public service offices within their respective constituencies.

  • Facility Name: Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Seva Kendra
  • Financial Support: The state government will provide a monthly stipend of ₹30,000 to assist with operational costs, subject to specific guidelines.
  • Mandatory Portrait: Each centre must display an official portrait of Netaji wearing a traditional dhoti-kurta, which will be distributed by the state’s Information and Cultural Affairs Department.
  • Inclusive Access: Services must be extended to all local residents, regardless of political affiliation.

Adhikari noted that while legislators previously operated out of standard government buildings, most now maintain dedicated constituency offices. These updated service centres aim to streamline civic assistance and bring local governance directly to the public under Netaji’s name.
