Panaji: Acclaimed actor and filmmaker Nana Patekar has passed away at the age of 75 following a cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa. According to medical personnel, the veteran performer was discovered unconscious and rushed to a local hospital. Despite intensive resuscitation efforts lasting roughly 45 minutes, doctors were unable to revive him. He was officially pronounced deceased at 5:20 AM. His son, Malhar Patekar, is traveling from Pune to Goa. Just days prior to his sudden demise, Patekar made a public appearance in Dona Paula, Goa, where he spoke at an installation ceremony hosted by Samraat Club International. A Storied Cinematic Career Born on January 1, 1951, in Maharashtra, Patekar rose to prominence as one of Indian cinema’s most formidable talents, widely celebrated for his sharp dialogue delivery, raw intensity, and commanding screen presence. Over a career spanning nearly five decades, he earned three National Film Awards, four Filmfare Awards, and the prestigious Padma Shri in 2013 for his distinguished contributions to the arts. He marked his film debut in Muzaffar Ali’s Gaman (1978) before delivering career-defining performances across Hindi and Marathi cinema. His notable credits include Parinda, Angaar, Krantiveer, Yeshwant, Wajood, Ab Tak Chhappan, Apaharan, Raajneeti, and his widely celebrated turn in the Marathi drama Natsamrat (2016). Patekar also showcased his versatility in mainstream comedy, earning popular acclaim as Uday Shetty in the Welcome franchise and featuring in Housefull 5. In addition to acting and directing, he occasionally lent his voice to playback singing in films such as Yeshwant and Aanch. Beyond his artistic legacy, Patekar was widely respected for his grassroots philanthropy, most notably his extensive work supporting drought-hit farmers and rural communities across Maharashtra.
