Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) In a major crackdown on legal credential fraud, the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh has initiated strict action against individuals practicing law using forged academic certificates. Following a complaint filed by the Bar Council, Civil Lines Police in Prayagraj have registered named cases against 26 advocates. The fraud came to light during an official verification drive, where the degree certificates and mark sheets submitted by these individuals failed to match university records and were confirmed to be fake. Key Details of the Investigation Document Verification: The Bar Council’s verification committee cross-checked the academic records submitted during registration with respective universities, uncovering widespread discrepancies. Prior Notices Issued: Before filing formal police complaints, the committee dispatched individual notices to the suspect advocates on various dates, requesting clarification. More Cases Expected: Sources indicate that the Bar Council has submitted complaints against over 50 individuals in total. Police are currently processing the remaining files to lodge additional FIRs. Ongoing Probe: Civil Lines Police have launched a comprehensive investigation to trace the origin of the forged documents and identify all individuals involved in fabricating the credentials.
