A viral video recorded on a public road near Maharashtra’s Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve has ignited widespread concern after motorists were seen risking their safety to film a wild tiger at close range.

The footage depicts several individuals exiting their vehicles to capture photos and videos, ignoring safety protocol to get a closer look at the apex predator. Wildlife enthusiasts and conservationists have strongly condemned the actions, cautioning against prioritizing social media content over basic safety and animal welfare.

Wildlife Guidelines Blatantly Ignored

Standard safety rules require drivers and passengers to remain inside their vehicles, keep a safe distance, and avoid provoking wild animals during unexpected roadside encounters. Exiting a vehicle near a big cat poses immediate personal danger and risks stressing or disorienting the animal.

This is not an isolated occurrence in the region:

• Repeated Incident: A similar incident occurred near Tadoba along the Mohurli-Chandrapur stretch, where a tiger struggled to navigate past crowds while attempting to cross the road.
• Public Backlash: Prominent figures, including former Uttar Pradesh minister IP Singh, publicly criticized the crowd’s conduct on X (formerly Twitter), sparking calls for stricter enforcement of forest safety laws.

Located in the Chandrapur district of Maharashtra, the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve is one of India’s most prominent tiger habitats, making human-wildlife encounters along its perimeter roads relatively common.
