BAREILLY — Ahead of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s scheduled visit to Bareilly on Tuesday, the district’s political landscape witnessed a notable realignment as former two-time Aonla MP Dharmendra Kashyap met Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav in Lucknow.

Kashyap, who recently stepped down from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) via a social media announcement, met Yadav on Sunday alongside his daughter, Kirti Kashyap, and his son-in-law. Several local SP leaders were present during the interaction, including Bareilly district unit president Shubhlesh Yadav, senior leader Veerpal Singh Yadav, and former minister Bhagwat Sharan Gangwar. Kashyap is widely expected to formally join the Samajwadi Party along with his supporters at an official gathering in Lucknow on October 27.

The meeting has intensified seat-sharing discussions within the opposition camp, particularly regarding the Bithari Chainpur Assembly constituency. Kashyap has reportedly sought an SP ticket for his daughter from the seat, where veteran leader Veerpal Singh Yadav had been positioning his son, Dr. Devendra Yadav. Following deliberations in Lucknow, Veerpal Singh Yadav was named the in-charge for the neighbouring Aonla assembly segment—a move seen locally as an effort to balance internal party interests, though no official candidate announcements have been issued for either seat.

Meanwhile, preparations remain in full swing for Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s upcoming visit. During his planned three-and-a-half-hour tour, the Chief Minister is scheduled to address and felicitate approximately 5,000 village watchmen (Gram Praharies) from nine districts across the Bareilly and Moradabad divisions. He will later address a public rally at Bareilly Club Ground in support of BJP candidate Hari Singh Dhillon for the Bareilly-Moradabad Division Teachers’ Legislative Council constituency.
