Netflix has officially released the trailer for its upcoming crime drama series Akka, showcasing an intense rivalry between leads Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte. Produced by YRF Entertainment and helmed by writer-director Dharmaraj Shetty, the series creates a distinct matriarchal underworld centered on lineage, ambition, and fierce power dynamics. The show is scheduled to begin streaming on Netflix on October 30. The storyline unfolds in the fictional realm of Pernuru, an influential kingdom long governed and defended by formidable women. The established order begins to fracture when external forces provoke deep-seated family tensions and awaken past rivalries. At the center of this clash are Bhavani (played by Suresh) and Rudra (played by Apte). While Bhavani fights relentlessly to preserve her household’s inherited reign, Rudra emerges determined to overturn the status quo, setting off a ruthless battle for supreme authority. The ensemble cast includes veteran actors Tanvi Azmi and Mahesh Manjrekar, alongside Anshuman Pushkar and Monica Panwar. Speaking about the upcoming project, Tanya Bami, Series Head at Netflix India, highlighted that the series places women directly at the core of authority and conflict rather than on the sidelines, continuing the platform’s collaborative streak with Aditya Chopra and Yash Raj Entertainment. Writer-director Dharmaraj Shetty noted that the production aims to subvert standard tropes of the gangster genre by setting it in a world with original ground rules, shaped by intergenerational dynamics and intricate female relationships. Reflecting on her role, Keerthy Suresh described Bhavani as a determined leader forced to make severe compromises under high stakes, praising the contrasting dynamic her co-star Apte brought to their on-screen confrontation. Apte shared that Rudra represents defiance and sharp ambition, emphasizing that the drama digs deep into personal motivations, ideologies, and loyalties beyond mere territorial control. Akka continues the creative alliance between streaming giant Netflix and YRF Entertainment, which previously delivered titles like The Railway Men, The Romantics, Maharaj, and Mandala Murders.
