Mumbai — Indian benchmark indices recovered in early trade on Wednesday, supported by gains in IT stocks, HDFC Bank, and renewed foreign investor inflows.

The BSE Sensex surged 726.13 points to 77,471.26, while the NSE Nifty climbed 203.50 points to 24,189.05.

What Drove the Rally

  • Top Gainers: Infosys, L&T, HUL, HDFC Bank, TCS, Tech Mahindra, Bharti Airtel, and HCL Tech led the advance in the Sensex basket.
  • Laggards: InterGlobe Aviation, Bharat Electronics, Power Grid, and Axis Bank were among the biggest drags.

FIIs turned net buyers on Tuesday, purchasing equities worth Rs 755.33 crore, as per exchange data.

Global Cues Mixed

  • Oil: Brent crude rose 4.29% to USD 87.70 per barrel.
  • Asia: South Korea’s KOSPI fell 7.85%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 and China’s SSE Composite were also in the red, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng traded higher.
  • US: Wall Street ended mostly higher on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Indian markets had ended slightly lower. The Sensex dropped 69.86 points to 76,765.92 and the Nifty slipped 10.60 points to 23,985.35.
