Five women in Kota who developed kidney failure after C-section deliveries at New Medical College Hospital are demanding kidney transplants within 48 hours. The women have had 32 dialysis sessions in 68 days. On July 15, 2026, their families wrote to President Droupadi Murmu asking for permission for euthanasia if transplants are not done. They had earlier submitted a memorandum to district officials on July 13 with no response. Hospital Principal Dr. Nilesh Jain said the patients are stable and can be discharged for OPD dialysis. He added that transplants are premature as patients need 3-6 months monitoring for end-stage kidney disease. Families say they are facing financial ruin. Mohan Lal sold his taxi and Ragini Meena’s husband lost his job. Five other women died due to post-delivery complications at NMCH and J.K. Lone Hospital. The Rajasthan government has ordered a probe. Some substandard drugs were banned. Maternal deaths have also been reported from Bikaner, Bhilwara and Banswara.
