Trading across Indian financial markets is paused today, September 14, in observance of Ganesh Chaturthi. The holiday caps off a three-day market shutdown following the standard weekend closures on September 12 and 13.

All core trading activities remain suspended across both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), spanning equities, equity derivatives, and the Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLB) segment. Normal trading will resume on Tuesday, September 15, with the standard pre-open window at 9:00 AM IST and continuous market execution starting at 9:15 AM IST.

Remaining Stock Market Holidays in 2026

Following today’s break, the exchanges will observe five additional trading holidays through the remainder of the calendar year:

  • Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti: October 2
  • Dussehra: October 20
  • Diwali-Balipratipada: November 10
  • Prakash Gurpurb: November 24
  • Christmas: December 25

Gold and Silver Face Heightened Volatility

While domestic equity trading takes a breather, commodities and bullion desks are bracing for sharp swings this week. Market participants are monitoring several global catalysts, notably:

  • US Federal Reserve Policy Meeting: The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meets on September 15–16. Market direction will hinge on the benchmark interest rate decision and forward guidance delivered by the Fed Chair.
  • Geopolitical & Macro Drivers: Ongoing tensions surrounding the US-Iran conflict, crude oil price fluctuations, and movements in the US Dollar Index are set to drive bullion sentiment and trigger sharp price adjustments in spot gold and silver.
