A deep depression over the Bay of Bengal is intensifying monsoon activity across central and eastern India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by lightning and surface winds reaching up to 70 kmph, impacting over 10 states. Regional Weather Highlights Uttar Pradesh: Eastern UP (Purvanchal) faces an intense wet spell with risks of squalls and lightning. Heavy rain warnings cover Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Mirzapur, Ghazipur, Basti, Gonda, and neighboring districts. Bihar & Jharkhand: Widespread showers and lightning are forecast across Bihar. In Jharkhand, an orange alert is active for Ranchi, Khunti, Gumla, Simdega, and West Singhbhum, alongside yellow alerts for 11 other districts. Central India (MP, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha): Severe rain spells and gusty winds up to 70 kmph are expected across Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. In Maharashtra, while Konkan remains relatively calm, an orange alert has been issued for Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, and Gondia. West Bengal & Odisha: Coastal areas face heavy downpours. The IMD has advised fishermen along the Odisha and West Bengal coasts to stay ashore due to rough sea conditions and wind speeds of 55 to 65 kmph. North & Northwest India: Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are slated for heavy rains and thunderstorms. Delhi-NCR, Haryana, and Chandigarh will experience scattered showers through September 29. Rajasthan will witness ongoing activity across both eastern and western zones through September 27. Northeast & South India: Active conditions persist across all northeastern states with thunder and lightning. In the south, moderate to heavy rain is forecast across Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.
