Salaried employees in India will soon experience a major shift in how they manage their provident fund (PF) savings. The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is preparing to rollout its upgraded IT infrastructure, EPFO 3.0, designed to bring PF account accessibility close to standard retail banking. Key Upgrades in EPFO 3.0 Cloud-Based Centralized System: EPFO 3.0 replaces legacy regional servers with a centralized cloud database to reduce portal downtime, fix website glitches, and enable faster online request processing. Auto-Settlement up to ₹5 Lakh: Emergency advance claims—such as those for medical treatment, higher education, marriage, or home purchases—up to ₹5,00,000 will be processed automatically by the system. Human intervention will no longer be required for verifying eligible claims, reducing approval cycles to 3–4 working days. Direct ATM and UPI Integration: EPFO plans to link PF accounts directly to national payment networks. This integration will allow members to make micro-withdrawals for urgent medical expenses via UPI or debit-card-style ATM transactions within predefined limits. Rollout Status The EPFO 3.0 platform was initially scheduled for launch earlier this summer, but technical testing deferred the deployment. While preliminary reports point toward a rollout in September 2026, EPFO has not yet released an official implementation date.
