New Delhi AAP Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday ramped up his campaign against the Centre’s E20 petrol policy and announced a march to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence on August 4. Speaking at the ‘National Town Hall Against E20’ held at Constitution Club, the former Delhi CM said he will submit a petition with over 2 lakh signatures opposing the policy directly to the PM. ‘100 People Who Don’t Fear Lathis’ Kejriwal announced he will lead a group of 100 people to PM Modi’s house at 12 PM on Tuesday, August 4. “We don’t need to gather a crowd. I will take 100 people who are not scared of lathi-charge,” he said. He added that he will personally hand over the printed copies of the online petition signed by citizens against the E20 policy. X Bio Changed, Public Appeal Made To turn the protest into a nationwide movement, Kejriwal also changed his X (Twitter) bio. His new bio reads: “Let’s raise our voice together against E20. Click the link below and sign the petition to the PM.” He is urging people on social media to join the campaign, post videos, and make their voices heard. Kejriwal’s 3 Key Demands On E20 Addressing thousands present and joining virtually, Kejriwal listed 3 major demands: Choice at pumps: People should have the option to buy 100% pure petrol or E20 blended petrol. Price difference: Since ethanol has lower calorific value and gives less mileage than petrol, pure petrol should be priced lower than E20. Affordable fuel: Petrol should be sold at less than Rs 84 per litre to give relief to citizens from inflation. Why He Opposes E20 Kejriwal questioned the intent behind the policy. He claimed that mixing ethanol reduces vehicle mileage and puts extra financial burden on people. It also risks damaging engines of older vehicles. He further alleged that farmers living near ethanol plants are facing water shortages and damaged land. Linking it to trade, he said under the recent India-US trade deal, India has to buy $100 billion worth of US goods in 5 years. As the US is the world’s largest ethanol producer, India is increasing ethanol imports 5 times. “To please America and Trump, this harmful E20 policy is being forced on our citizens,” he alleged. Security Tight, Activist Claims Detained Heavy deployment of Delhi Police, CRPF and RAF was seen outside Constitution Club. AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj shared a video showing the security buildup. Social activist Tahseen Poonawalla, who was planning a silent march to Gandhi Smriti and a one-day hunger strike against the policy, alleged that Delhi Police placed him under house arrest on Saturday morning.
