Delhi High Court Pulls Up Student Outfits, Police Over Rule Violations During DUSU Elections

The Delhi High Court on Friday sharply reprimanded major student political factions, including the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), over blatant rule violations and campus unrest during the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) campaigning period.

Hearing a petition highlighting campaign violence and code-of-conduct breaches, the bench voiced frustration over the behavior of student groups, questioning whether they genuinely operated as students after committing in advisory meetings to uphold the Lyngdoh Committee guidelines.

The court also scrutinized law enforcement after visual evidence showed unpermitted vehicle convoys—some lacking registration number plates—parading through North Campus. The bench asked the Deputy Commissioner of Police how such infractions occurred despite substantial personnel deployment. In response, the Additional Solicitor General confirmed that compliance status reports, including documentation from the Delhi Police, have been submitted.
