The Congress party launched a sharp attack on Saturday, asserting that parliamentary proceedings have remained disrupted for 15 consecutive days due to Home Minister Amit Shah’s refusal to appear in the House and address questions regarding police action against protesting students.

With only four days remaining in the ongoing Monsoon Session, the Opposition urged the Home Minister to respond to the allegations directly on the floor of Parliament.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh posted on X (formerly Twitter), questioning the government’s stance and highlighting several core concerns:

• Continued Parliamentary Disruption: Ramesh stated that the single main reason for the persistent deadlock in both Houses over the past fortnight is the Home Minister’s refusal to issue a formal statement regarding the police action against student demonstrators.
• Direct Jurisdiction Over Delhi Police: Emphasizing that the Delhi Police falls under the direct purview of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ramesh asserted that the Home Minister holds accountability and must directly address lawmakers’ queries.
• Presence in Parliament Complex: The Congress leader claimed that while the Home Minister regularly attends his office within the Parliament building, he has consistently avoided entering the Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha chambers during debates on this issue, calling the prolonged absence “unprecedented.”

Opposition Raises Concerns Over Ram Temple Trust Allegations

In addition to the demands concerning police action, Jairam Ramesh also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding alleged financial irregularities connected to the Ram Temple Trust:

• Call for Accountability: Recalling that the Prime Minister announced the formation of the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust in the Lok Sabha on February 5, 2020, Ramesh stated that allegations of financial mismanagement and “breach of public trust” require a direct explanation from the head of government.
• Criticism of Government Leadership: Ramesh criticized the top leadership, accusing them of avoiding key parliamentary debates and failing to address pressing concerns raised by the Opposition during the session.
