The Bihar district administration is actively encouraging residents to adopt the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana by installing rooftop solar systems to significantly reduce household electricity expenses. Authorities have urged the public to submit their applications online through the official portal. Following instructions from the Chief Secretary, the District Magistrate has mandated all district-level officials and government employees to apply for rooftop solar installations at their private residences within two days. To facilitate this process, the electricity department is organizing dedicated facilitation camps across key government locations, including the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Municipal Corporation offices, combined administrative buildings, and all block headquarters. How the Application and Installation Process Works Registration: Consumers must register as new users on the national PM Surya Ghar portal by submitting their consumer number and basic information to obtain an application ID. Technical Feasibility: The local power distribution company (DISCOM) conducts a technical feasibility assessment to approve the request. Vendor Selection & Setup: Once approved, applicants select an authorized, empanelled vendor via the portal. A photograph of the rooftop must be uploaded prior to installation. Inspection & Net Metering: Following installation, the DISCOM performs an on-site physical inspection, executes the metering agreement, and installs the net meter. Subsidy Disbursement: After commissioning is confirmed on the portal and final verification is complete, the central financial assistance is transferred directly into the beneficiary’s bank account. Subsidy Structure and Required Documents Under the scheme, the central government provides financial subsidies based on installation capacity: 1 kW system: ₹30,000 2 kW system: ₹60,000 3 kW system (or higher): Maximum subsidy of ₹78,000 Applicants will need identification proof (such as an identity card), an electricity consumer number, bank account details, a mobile number, a passport-sized photograph, and a clear photo of the residential rooftop. Authorities have cautioned consumers to work exclusively through vendors registered with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) on the official portal, warning against unauthorized intermediaries or fraudulent operators.
