Mumbai — State-owned Bank of Baroda on Monday confirmed an unauthorized data access incident after an employee’s email account was compromised.

The bank clarified that its core banking systems remain secure and there was no breach into those systems.

What Happened

In a post on X, Bank of Baroda said:

“The incident involved compromise of an employee’s e-mail account, resulting in unauthorised access to certain data.”

The bank stated that the matter was identified promptly and containment measures were implemented immediately. It did not share further details such as when the breach occurred or the employee’s designation.

Response to Social Media Claims

The statement appears to address media reports and social media posts alleging that over 1 TB of data, including customers’ personal Aadhaar details, was accessed and leaked on the dark web for free.

Bank of Baroda said it has robust information security protocols in place. A comprehensive forensic investigation has been initiated, and the bank is working closely with relevant authorities on the matter..

Bank’s Assurance

The lender reiterated that customer accounts and core banking infrastructure have not been impacted. It urged customers not to panic and to rely only on official communication channels for updates.
