Following a change in political leadership in West Bengal, the Adani Group is preparing to initiate three significant infrastructure and social development projects across Kolkata and its surrounding areas, targeted to begin on September 24. The portfolio includes the restoration of the historic Writers’ Building, a comprehensive riverfront redevelopment along Kumartuli Ghat, and the construction of a large multi-specialty hospital in New Town. State officials are working to confirm Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani’s personal attendance for the formal announcement. The Key Projects Healthcare Facility in New Town: The group plans to build a major hospital complex featuring a dual-model capacity setup. Under the planned arrangement, 1,000 beds will be specifically reserved for economically disadvantaged patients, while the remaining 1,000 beds will operate commercially. An initial outlay of ₹10 crore has been designated under CSR allocations to advance planning and preparatory work. Kumartuli Ghat Riverfront Redevelopment: Managed under the group’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) wing, this project covers a 300-meter stretch of riverfront between Kumartuli Ghat and Champa Tala Ghat. The blueprint entails repairing flood defences, creating pedestrianized access, restoring local heritage architecture, setting up stalls for artisans, and constructing public conveniences. Writers’ Building Restoration: Estimated at ₹100 crore, the initiative seeks to rehabilitate Kolkata’s colonial-era administrative landmark. Technical teams have already surveyed the structure to draft a blueprint focused on restoring its authentic British-era architecture once formal regulatory approvals are finalized. Renewed Interest in Deep Sea Port Project Beyond urban infrastructure and CSR initiatives, the conglomerate is actively tracking maritime opportunities in the state. The group has indicated interest in bidding for a deep-sea port slated for Dadanpatrabar in Purba Medinipur. The project was previously earmarked for Tajpur under the prior administration; however, execution stalled over local displacement concerns. Following the state government’s decision to shift the site to avoid displacing residents, the Adani Group has renewed its intent to participate in the upcoming tender process.
