New Delhi – The Union Cabinet has approved major schemes for farmers, energy and sports. PM-Kisan will continue for 5 more years, a new floating solar mission was cleared, and the budget for Khelo India was hiked nearly 8 times. PM-Kisan Extended Till 2030-31 With Rs 3.15 Lakh Cr Outlay The government has decided to extend the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme till FY 2030-31. An outlay of Rs 3.15 lakh crore has been approved for this period. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “Farmers’ prosperity is the foundation of the nation’s prosperity.” Under the scheme, eligible farmer families get Rs 6,000 per year in 3 equal installments through Direct Benefit Transfer. Launched in February 2019, the scheme has so far transferred over Rs 4.47 lakh crore to farmers’ accounts across 23 installments. The government said continuing the scheme will boost agri investment, productivity and the rural economy, and strengthen the role of crores of farmers in the journey of a ‘Viksit Bharat’. PM Surya Sarovar Yojana Approved: Solar Plants To Float On Water After PM Surya Ghar, the cabinet has now cleared PM Surya Sarovar Yojana. Under this, solar panels will be installed on dams, reservoirs and ponds to generate electricity. The 5-year scheme will cost around Rs 5,070 crore. Vaishnaw said India has the potential to generate 102.18 GW of power from reservoirs. To meet peak demand, 2 hours of storage will also be included in the project. Rs 36,441 Cr For Khelo India Till 2031 The cabinet also approved the expanded version of Khelo India and financial assistance to National Sports Federations (NSFs). The government will spend a total of Rs 36,441 crore from 2026-27 to 2030-31. For the first time, Khelo India Feeder Schools and Khelo India Centres of Excellence will be started. The budget for the new Khelo India scheme has been increased nearly 8 times to Rs 29,054 crore. Rs 7,387 crore was approved for NSF assistance. The government said this will strengthen India’s bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games and to bid for the Olympics. All Sports Centres To Be Integrated The government plans to integrate NCOEs, Khelo India Centres of Excellence, SAI Training Centres, Khelo India Accredited Academies, Khelo India Centres and Youth Sports Companies of Armed Forces.
