Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited’s Bhopal plant has secured a major order worth approximately ₹900 crore for the supply of specialised defence equipment to the Indian Armed Forces, the company confirmed on Thursday. The order covers the manufacturing of high-performance transformers and switchgear systems that will be deployed at key defence installations across the country. The Bhopal unit, one of BHEL’s flagship manufacturing facilities, will handle the entire production cycle. BHEL Bhopal Unit Head R.K. Verma said the order will be executed over an 18-month period and will provide a significant boost to the facility’s order book. “This is a testament to the quality and technical capability of our Bhopal workforce,” he added. The plant currently employs over 4,500 workers and engineers, and this new order is expected to lead to the hiring of an additional 200 contract-based skilled workers. BHEL Bhopal has long been a cornerstone of the city’s industrial economy since its establishment in 1956.
