“How Dare You”: Rahul Gandhi Slams DU, JNU Advisories Asking Students To Avoid Protests

New Delhi — Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Friday hit out at Delhi University and JNU for issuing advisories asking students to stay away from ongoing protests.

The remarks came after DU warned students against joining demonstrations, including the protest at Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

What Rahul Gandhi Said

In a post on X on Friday morning, Gandhi condemned the university’s directive.

“How dare you threaten students for exercising their democratic rights?” he wrote.

“You will be held accountable. Please note, you are the ones that will be held accountable when the time comes.”

What DU Advisory Said

On Thursday, Delhi University posted a message on social media urging students to avoid “unlawful assemblies” at Jantar Mantar.

The university cited Supreme Court guidelines on protests at the site and said such gatherings could lead to legal action. It also flagged concerns about student safety and academic impact.

“Your safety matters to us. Any unlawful assemblies or demonstrations at Jantar Mantar, which are strictly regulated as per Supreme Court directives, may invite legal action. Such activities can also pose risks to personal safety and impact academic progress. All students are urged to stay away from Jantar Mantar and prioritise safety and compliance with the law,” the DU advisory stated.

DU also cautioned students about “fake and misleading content” being circulated online.

JNU Issues Similar Advisory

JNU also put out a similar notice on Friday morning. The university asked students and faculty to “act responsibly and prioritise personal safety” and to refrain from visiting gatherings at or around Jantar Mantar.

“Please exercise responsibility on social media. Violations may invite legal consequences under applicable laws as well as disciplinary action under the University’s code of conduct,” the JNU advisory added.

Protests have been held in several cities over the last few weeks, drawing responses from multiple campuses.
