Authorities in Kolkata have finalized an extensive, multi-layered security apparatus at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (Salt Lake Stadium) ahead of Saturday’s marquee football encounter between Brazil and India.

To manage the massive crowd expected for one of the city’s most anticipated international sporting events, the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate announced the mobilization of roughly 2,000 police officers alongside 400 civic volunteers.

Entry Protocols and Crowd Control Measures

In an effort to prevent entry bottlenecks, law enforcement has urged ticket holders to arrive by 5:00 PM. Access points around the stadium have been organized with dedicated barricades and guardrails to keep pedestrian movement smooth and separated.

Key security measures include:

  • Three-Tier Screening: Attendees must pass three checkpoints involving manual frisking and electronic ticket scanning prior to entering the stands.
  • CCTV Surveillance: An integrated network of over 300 surveillance cameras will monitor the perimeter, access corridors, and seating tiers continuously.
  • Prohibited Items: To eliminate safety hazards and avoid pitch-invasion incidents, authorities have banned outside food, water bottles, lighters, cigarettes, flammable materials, fireworks, laser pointers, sharp objects, and weapons. Fans are also prohibited from bringing large banners, posters, tifos, or musical instruments such as drums.

The intensified crowd-management measures follow lessons learned from previous high-capacity sports gatherings in the city, with law enforcement placing heavy emphasis on maintaining orderly entry and exit lanes.

Public Screening at Gitanjali Stadium

For supporters unable to secure stadium tickets, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has organized a live public broadcast. The match will be shown on two large screens at the Gitanjali Stadium in Kasba, located behind Acropolis Mall. The open-access screening can host approximately 3,000 fans, with coverage scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM under local police oversight.
