Bank branches across the country are poised for widespread operational interruptions starting Monday, September 28, 2026, as employee unions launch a planned 72-hour national strike. The industrial action is aimed at pressing authorities to implement a five-day work week alongside several unresolved labor demands.

Essential in-branch functions—such as physical cash deposits, counter withdrawals, document processing, and cheque clearing—are expected to face significant delays during the agitation. Public sector lenders, older private commercial banks, and regional rural banks (RRBs) will likely bear the brunt of the disruption.

However, internet banking portals, mobile applications, and ATM networks are expected to remain functional, allowing customers to carry out digital transactions and fund transfers without major hindrance.
