Amazon has introduced Alexa+, an upgraded version of its virtual assistant powered by generative artificial intelligence, tailored specifically for the Indian market. Moving past basic commands like setting timers and controlling smart plugs, the new assistant is designed to handle multi-step actions, engage in natural dialogue, and deeply personalize interactions based on user habits. Smarter, Context-Aware, and Multilingual Alexa+ features major improvements in contextual memory and conversational flow: Natural Language Switching: Users can seamlessly alternate between Hindi, English, and Hinglish within a single command without interrupting the assistant. Proactive Context and Memory: The assistant retains user preferences, family routines, and personal notes—such as dietary restrictions—to offer proactive suggestions during daily tasks. Autonomous Task Execution: Alexa+ can organize recipes, add missing ingredients to Amazon Now carts based on past brand preferences, and place orders directly. Complex Home Automation: Single conversational prompts can trigger multi-stage actions, such as setting mood lighting, powering on appliances, and launching specific streaming content simultaneously. Technical Architecture and Privacy Controls Alexa+ runs on Amazon Bedrock using a model-agnostic system that connects more than 70 large language models—including proprietary Amazon models and Anthropic systems. Prompts are dynamically routed to the model best suited for the specific task, whether it is natural language analysis, smart home orchestration, or general information retrieval. To address privacy concerns, Amazon has integrated an updated Privacy Dashboard. Users can review voice transcripts, listen to stored audio, manage shared attachments, and adjust retention settings directly through the portal. Supported Devices and Pricing Details The assistant will work across compatible Echo smart speakers, smart displays, Fire TV hardware, and the Alexa mobile app. Hardware optimized for the new system includes the Echo Show 8, Echo Show 11, Echo Dot Max, and Echo Studio. Early Access: Available at no additional charge to all users during the initial rollout phase. Post-Launch Access: Fully included for standard Amazon Prime subscribers. Non-Prime & Tiered Plans: Users on Prime Lite, Prime Shopping Edition, or non-Prime tiers can access the service via a standard Prime upgrade or as an independent annual subscription priced at Rs 2,000.
