Center Initiates Land Acquisition to Expand Hyderabad-Vijayawada Highway (NH-65) into Six Lanes

HYDERABAD — The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has formally initiated the land acquisition process to widen the high-density National Highway 65 (NH-65), connecting Hyderabad and Vijayawada, into a six-lane corridor. A preliminary notification has been issued under Section 3A(1) of the National Highways Act, 1956, covering a key stretch across Telangana’s Nalgonda district.

The widening initiative focuses on the stretch between kilometer markers 62.200 and 126.800. Authorities plan to acquire approximately 6.32 hectares of agricultural and non-agricultural land spread across 70 survey numbers.

Key Highlights of the Land Acquisition:

• Covered Mandals: Chityala, Narketpally, Kattangoor, Nakrekal, and Kethepally.
• Impacted Villages (13): Veliminedu, Vattimarthy, Chityala, Narketpally, Yellareddygudem, Cheruvugattu, Pamanagundla, Dugnevelli, Aitipamula, Chandampally, Nakrekal, Korlapahad, and Inupamula.
• Objection Period: Landholders and affected parties have a 21-day window from the notification date to submit claims or objections to the relevant Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO). The final acquisition notification will be issued following administrative scrutiny and formal inquiries.

Project Impact and Transit Benefits: Given the intense vehicular movement between Hyderabad and Vijayawada, expanding NH-65 to six lanes aims to substantially ease bottlenecks, cut down overall travel time, and improve road safety by curbing accident rates. The project is also expected to bolster logistics and freight movement for industries across the region. Concurrently, ongoing civil works—such as black spot corrections and underpass construction along this corridor—have been accelerated.
