Monsoon activity has intensified sharply across northern, central, and eastern India, bringing widespread heavy downpours, lightning, and thunderstorms. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), an existing low-pressure system over Uttar Pradesh coupled with active trough lines will sustain moderate to heavy rainfall across northern states for the next four days. Concurrently, a new weather disturbance is brewing in the Bay of Bengal, threatening a prolonged spell of severe weather across multiple regions. New Weather System in Bay of Bengal Meteorologists indicate that a fresh low-pressure area is set to develop around September 11 over the west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal, off the coasts of north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha. This developing system will drive heavy precipitation over central and eastern corridors well into mid-September. Extremely Heavy Rainfall: Odisha faces severe rainfall alerts on September 10, while Arunachal Pradesh is on high alert for isolated, exceptionally heavy spells on September 12. Central & Peninsular Influx: Chhattisgarh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana are projected to receive heavy downpours accompanied by thunderstorms from September 11 to 14. Madhya Pradesh & Vidarbha: Rainfall will expand over western Madhya Pradesh from September 12 to 14, and over eastern Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh between September 10 and 14. Vidarbha will remain prone to lightning and intermittent thunderstorms through September 14. Recent Rainfall Highlights Over the preceding 24 hours, active monsoon currents triggered torrential rain in several isolated pockets across the subcontinent: Long Island (Andaman & Nicobar) and Amraghat (Assam): 12 cm Haldia (West Bengal): 10 cm Muhammadi (Uttar Pradesh) and Kolasib (Mizoram): 9 cm Nabarangpur (Odisha): 8 cm Kurti (Sub-Himalayan West Bengal) and Niwali (Madhya Pradesh): 7 cm Weather Shift Expected in Delhi-NCR After experiencing a sudden daytime temperature surge of 5°C to 6°C over recent days, residents of the National Capital Region (NCR) can expect relief soon. While partly cloudy skies and minor afternoon drizzles will persist between September 8 and 10 with temperatures hovering around 34°C to 36°C, a significant shift is projected for September 11. Overcast conditions and dual spells of light to moderate showers will push daytime maximum temperatures down to 31°C to 33°C, effectively easing prevailing humid conditions.
