Aaron Burnett, founder and CEO of investment firm Mach33, shared his personal experience. He posted, “I can confirm. I’ve doubled my annual miles ‘driven’ because my robot drives me 99% of the time.” Burnett was responding to American blogger and former Microsoft executive Robert Scoble. Scoble wrote about how using a robot-driven car had changed his routine: “My robot is driving me to a robot company in San Francisco. Life is good! One thing about having a robot drive you: you will drive more. I wouldn’t do the three-hour round trip from San Jose nearly as often if I had to drive myself. So as more people get robot drivers, traffic will get worse. That’s why Elon is digging tunnels. All tech has pros and cons. I like hanging out with people who see the pros.” Musk reposted Burnett’s comment and agreed. He wrote, “Traffic will get much worse with robot cars, because the pain of driving yourself is not there anymore!” What This Means For The Future For now, Musk’s short reply has drawn attention to a big question: If robot cars make travel easier and more comfortable, will they also make traffic worse?
