The monsoon is in full force across India. The India Meteorological Department has issued heavy rain alerts for July 13 in multiple states. According to IMD, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, Assam and Meghalaya are likely to see heavy to very heavy rainfall today. Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Sikkim are also expected to receive heavy rain. Delhi-NCR Weather Light to moderate rain with cloudy skies is forecast. It may bring some relief from the humid heat. However, thunderstorms, strong winds and lightning have also been warned in some areas. Meanwhile, a heatwave alert has been issued for coastal Andhra Pradesh. Why the heavy rain? IMD says the monsoon trough is currently running from Sriganganagar through Hisar, Meerut, Shahjahanpur, Gorakhpur, Muzaffarpur to South Assam. A western disturbance along with a cyclonic circulation over Bihar-Bangladesh is adding more strength to the monsoon. Because of this, the next 24 hours could bring intense rainfall to several states. Overall, the maximum impact today will be felt across North, East and Northeast India.
