A medium-intensity earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale hit Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district late Tuesday evening, sending mild shockwaves through the national capital and surrounding NCR areas.

According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the seismic event occurred at approximately 10:20 PM, with official data released around 10:40 PM.

Residents across Delhi-NCR quickly noticed the shaking, with several individuals taking to social media to report moving furniture and swinging light fixtures, including accounts from South Delhi’s Safdarjung area. As is typical following mild tremors, social media platforms—particularly X (formerly Twitter)—saw a surge in humor and memes referencing how residents of the capital react to low-intensity earthquakes.

This event followed another seismic disturbance earlier the same day in Northeast India, where an earthquake measuring 4.5 struck the Nagaon district of Assam at 4:23 AM at a depth of 33 kilometers, as reported by the NCS.
