Gaurav Bhatia Files ₹2 Crore Defamation Suit Against CJP Leaders

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Spokesperson and Senior Advocate Gaurav Bhatia has initiated legal proceedings against Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das, and Ashutosh Ranka. Bhatia filed a ₹2 crore civil defamation lawsuit in the Delhi High Court, seeking monetary damages alongside a permanent injunction to prevent further circulation of the allegedly defamatory material.

Origin of the Controversy The dispute centers on an AI-generated graphic circulated on X (formerly Twitter) by CJP spokesperson Saurav Das. The post falsely attributed controversial remarks to Bhatia concerning Swatantra Bhardwaj—an individual accused of assaulting the father of CJP member Nishu Azad. The fake post claimed Bhatia referred to Bhardwaj as a “cerebral Naxal” and made inflammatory caste-related remarks.

Bhatia rejected the claims, labeled the graphic fabricated, and issued a 24-hour ultimatum demanding an unconditional apology and the removal of the post. While Das subsequently deleted the upload and acknowledged it was an AI-generated creation, he publicly questioned whether Bhatia substantively disagreed with the statements depicted.

Allegations of Amplification The lawsuit states that despite the initial removal, other CJP leaders actively amplified the contested content. CJP co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka allegedly reshared the graphic accompanied by critical remarks directed at BJP leadership. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke is similarly cited for promoting the disputed graphic across social platforms. Ranka, Das, and fellow party members had earlier sought legal action against Bhardwaj regarding the alleged physical assault case.

Legal Action Over Social Media Discourse Addressing the filing under the title Gaurav Bhatia vs. Saurav Das & Ors, Bhatia stated that the matter will now be contested in court rather than through online debate. He emphasized that legal intervention becomes necessary when online assertions exceed acceptable limits, noting that the case before the Delhi High Court will rely strictly on evidentiary facts and legal principles.

Impact of CJP’s Digital Mobilization The legal battle follows broader political engagement driven by the Cockroach Janta Party’s digital operations. Known for organizing youth-centric digital mobilizations that previously influenced national ministerial accountability, the group’s campaign strategy demonstrated the political reach of Gen Z audiences. Major political figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, subsequently increased direct engagement on platforms like Instagram to connect with younger demographics, yielding substantial spikes in platform interactions following mid-2024 political digital outreach campaigns.
