Domestic bullion markets recorded notable gains on September 9, driven by sustained investor interest and robust institutional demand. Data from the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA) shows 24-karat gold rose by ₹355 to stand at ₹1.53 lakh per 10 grams. Concurrently, silver jumped ₹1,891, taking its price to ₹2.36 lakh per kilogram.

Year-to-Date Trajectory

Both metals have witnessed significant price swings throughout 2026:

  • Gold Influx: Gold has appreciated by ₹20,000 per 10 grams since the start of the year, up from ₹1.33 lakh on December 31, 2025, to its current ₹1.53 lakh mark.
  • Silver Movement: Silver climbed from ₹2.30 lakh per kg at the close of 2025 to ₹2.36 lakh today.
  • Record Highs: Earlier this year on January 29, both metals touched historical peaks, with gold reaching ₹1.76 lakh per 10g and silver striking ₹3.86 lakh per kg.

Market Outlook for Year-End

Analysts suggest that macroeconomic uncertainties will sustain gold’s upward trajectory, with prices potentially reaching ₹1.70 lakh per 10 grams by December. Under improving market conditions, silver could similarly see an accelerated breakout toward the ₹3 lakh per kg threshold.

Key Guidelines for Gold Buyers

Consumers planning jewellery purchases should keep three primary practices in mind:

  • Insist on BIS Hallmark: Purchase exclusively Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certified gold. Look for the unique alphanumeric Hallmark Unique Identification (HUID) code, which authenticates both purity and carat value.
  • Verify Daily Market Rates: Cross-check the daily spot price across authentic benchmarks like the IBJA portal before finalizing transactions, noting the price variations between 24K, 22K, and 18K purity grades.
  • Negotiate Making Charges: Labour and crafting fees vary widely among retailers and are rarely fixed. Request a clear cost breakdown and negotiate these charges, particularly on higher-volume purchases.
